Theater teachers don't get enough attention or praise for what they do. When's the last time you had to convince a bunch of middle school students to pretend to be a pretzel?
I don't remember the day when I let my dreams die, but that hasn't happened for Carlee Cagle.
That isn't to say that I'm unhappy or have lost hope in everything I believe in, but one day I stopped thinking I was going to be an actor or an astronaut or a firefighting robot/dinosaur. "Grow up Peter Pan" is all adults say to kids and then when we grow up, we all look back and wish we were young, impressionable, and full of potential.
Not in Ms. Cagle's class.
This week we talk about being a theater arts teacher teaching kids to be vulnerable, limitless, creative, and curious. This may have been the most fun I've ever had doing a podcast. She's not only a teacher, but spends her free time working on her craft and living life on the stage. This is what I wish all teachers were like when I was growing up.
Go see one of her shows! She'll be performing at Theater Arlington this fall and can also be seen at Lyric Stage in Irving.
