The key issues in the negotiation were K-2 class sizes, layoffs, and pensions/compensation.
Early Childhood Education and Teacher Compensation are obviously issues very close to the heart of conversation around education here in Dallas. Trying to find wasted money or gain access to new or additional tax dollars is something that we are all trying to do. What's important here is to see both the power that teachers can have if they work together and how it is possible to work together to find a solution that works for everyone, especially our kids. Sometimes it takes a 12 hour conversation, but if all parties are willing to listen, it's possible to move forward. If one of the sides decided to dig in late last night, there would be no school today. That would have directly impacted our students and families. Governance matters. Discussion matters.
