A teacher was telling me about a student that was dirty, smelled, and was doing poorly in class. Soon, the student started to skip. Eventually the teacher caught up to the student before they could begin their daily skipping and asked why the student doesn't come to class anymore. The student, still dirty, replied that she felt undignified because of the condition of her uniform. It was the only one she had and there was no way for her to clean it.
Haunting.
No student deserves to feel undignified or to have no option but to wear a dirty uniform. Yesterday, I purchased and had delivered a washer and dryer set for a Dallas ISD middle school. It wasn't difficult, expensive, or any other word that people use as a reason to not do something. If you're feeling action oriented, I encourage you to do the same. 5 Mile, Let Go, Offer Up and many of these other apps have very affordable appliances that you could have sent to the school of your choice that needs it.
If you see a problem, try to solve a problem. If you have a concern, address it. Be people of action. There's always room for more.
