How many people know a teacher that kicks kids out with no prior precedent? Who has felt like being that teacher? Who IS that teacher? Regardless of your answers to this question, we all have bad days and it's ok to be in a bad mood. The kids are funny every day, but sometimes you just don't feel like it. I get it. I understand. The problem is that the kids don't and you risk tearing down everything you've spent months cultivating by doing this. Here's why.
Students need consistency. the classroom rules I created at the beginning of the year are always changing. There are a ton of reasons for this including, but not limited to: no administrative support, not feeling like enforcing them, giving up, etc. These are understandable, but you have to stay strong. Students need the structure and it confuses them when we don't. Life in the class is worse without it.
Happy teaching folks.
