Don't know your precinct? Look it up! No more excuses. People don't vote in Dallas ISD elections, and that's a problem. Why? Because you are letting 1k people decide what happens to 150k students and 20k staff. That's insane.
Why should you care? Let's go by categories.
You are a parent of a student in Dallas ISD: The person elected will make decisions that directly impact the quality of the education your child receives and the buildings in which that education is provided. They are the ones who decide how money is allocated which impacts the opportunities available to your child.
You are a parent of a student elsewhere: You care about a child that goes to a school. Your vote could help someone get elected that can provide the kind of education that you would want for your child. Show some solidarity with parents across the city that want good things for their kids and help make their dreams a reality just like you do for your child.
You don't care about anything: You are a tax payer and some of that money goes toward Dallas ISD whether you want it to or not. Nobody with any kind of sense makes investments that they know are going to fail. If you are already paying, why not make sure your money is going toward something that works? Get some return on your investment by making sure our education system is functional.
You care about your own wealth, happiness, and wellbeing, but don't care at all about the children of Dallas or the schools they attend: A strong educational system means a strong economic system. Period. Good schools produce children that are capable of competing in higher education and the job market. This provides a recruitment base for businesses to be able to use local talent. This is attractive to businesses because they can save on a number of costs associated with hiring outside of the city. It's also attractive to businesses because their employees have a place to send their kids which makes coming to Dallas that much more attractive. Better education and more opportunities also, statistically speaking, lower both crime and poverty which is a net good for you, you selfish self interested so and so. Care about yourself by caring about Dallas kids.
Here's the stuff to help you make your decisions. Enjoy!
