When I make activities for my students, rarely do I ever complete the activity myself, do run throughs, or get feedback before I try it out on my kids. When they say the activities are boring or difficult, I'm usually quick to dismiss it and tell them thinks like "give it a chance" or "try harder." How arrogant and short sighted I've been.
I took this opportunity to look back on gallery walks I put together and activities I have created. I confused myself trying to go back through a few of these things. Why haven't I looked back at this activity I created 3 years ago until just now?
It is easy to disconnect yourself from the students when you are a teacher sometimes. Being back in the classroom has a student has reminded me many of the things I have chosen to forget about being in this position. I'm not so evolved or advanced that I can't take my own advice. I need to practice what I teach a bit more than I did last year.
