I take no joy in that suffering.
I tend to be fairly laid back as a teacher which admittedly causes some confusion. Adding to that is the stress that zeros in the gradebook cause. Multiplying the stress is the impending final exam season and parent pressure. I get it. That doesn't mean that anything goes and you get to do whatever you want.
Not only did the student show up unannounced to my class to argue about it but stormed off in the middle of the conversation before I could even offer extra credit, advice, or anything else. Not today, not ever is that an acceptable or functional way to express dissatisfaction. That will be the next conversation we have for sure.
