Guest lecturers are exciting because they bring a different style and perspective which is good for the students to see.
The next level is having an interdisciplinary guest lecture. Why not invite a science teacher to your classroom to explain how the weather and currents contributed to the Age of Exploration? Why not invite an English teacher in to talk about the changes in literature and music during the roaring 20s or Cold War? They still communicate content knowledge, but from a different position and focus. My kids love it so we're doing it tomorrow.
I'm having a teacher that studied war and conflict in college come and talk about specific WWII battles. He's passionate about it and the kids feel that passion. They enjoy his visits. It's great because he knows more about the subject than me and usually we don't got that in depth on the subject because I don't know enough about it.
Schools and teaching are a team activity. He is strong where I am weak. We're working together for the benefit of our students.
