Better late than never.
One was originally college bound, had a kid, pretended to still be on track, started working and decided to do that instead, switched to wanting to enlist in the military, and finally she has returned to wanting to go to college. She loves reading and learning. She always has. SHe aspires to learn about psychology and is interested in pursuing a career in law. Life has gotten more complicated for her, but I see no reason why she can’t work hard and continue to chase her dreams.
The other kept it a secret that she hadn’t applied to college. While everyone else in her friend group was writing essays, finishing applications, and visiting schools, she acted like she was doing the same thing, but wasn’t. I’m not really sure why. Perhaps she is still dealing with grief over the loss of a family member. Maybe she just doesn’t have much academic self confidence, which I definitely knew to be true when she was in my class. There’s also the very real possibility that she decided it was to big of an expense. Regardless of the reason, just in the past few days she found out about an opportunity to play sports at a 4 year university that was looking for hard working athletes like herself. Game changer.
Sometimes opportunity just falls into our laps.
