I understand we do not want students in the building unsupervised, but not opening the school until 15 minutes before morning tutoring starts and 50 minutes before the start of the school days is ridiculous. Teachers need to be able to access their classrooms and take care of what they need to. Don't come at me with you shouldn't be waiting until the morning of to set up for the day. Why should I be penalized because I want to start my day early to be prepared, review my lesson, add any changes and set up. Once you have made it passed the impossible of getting in the building you have to deal with a locked door to the clock in, a locked door to the teachers lounge, locked doors to the bathroom, locked doors to any copier/printer, basically just locked doors. Again why do they do this, because they want to keep students out. Again who are they impacting teachers. Then I get in trouble because I didn't clock in or I am making copies right until the bell rings. Easy solution here, open the doors.
Am I overreacting a bit, yes. Am I ranting a bit, absolutely and I am sorry for that. It is just so annoying that I can't do my job when I want to. I frustrated to have another day where I am now scrambling to take care of what I need to. Sure there are solutions I could control. I could wake up and stay at home to review my lessons, I could plan lessons that don't need set up, I could stay at school after tutoring (o wait everything is also locked then. Don't get me started on how the copiers and teachers lounge are locked before the day is even over). We shouldn't have to think like that. Wonder weather I will be able to get in to school in the morning. I should be focusing on how to make the best lesson for my classes.
When I can't even get around my school I begin to feel like a student, restricted from areas and not trusted. Treat me like a professional. Allow me to do my job and don't get mad me when I can't because your systems don't allow it. I really understand that all of these measures are to stop students from being places the shouldn't. The problem is we are also blocking teachers and their ability to do their job. That is not okay. There has to be another solution.
