Clearly I am joking, sort of, but this is actually a serious problem. We have lockdown protocols in place for student and teacher protection. There are enough cases in recent news of guns, knives or other weapons winding up in schools. Just last week we had an issue here in DISD with a gun in a high school. There has to be a clear system used to notify teachers of a potential danger. Abusing that system jeopardizes teacher and student safety. For what? A quick fix or to make your school look better. I am sorry but my safety and the safety of my students is not worth that. How am I supposed to know if it’s a real lockdown or another fake one? Make up a new code? That was the whole point of the first one that got abused. I am truly frustrated and annoyed by this. It shows a lack of consideration or care for systems and safety. No concern for the long term effect or even the confusion it creates amongst teachers. First time we went into fake lockdown I was genuinely concerned. I had no idea what was going on, my students were nervous and calling parents to get picked up, and I was trying to keep them calm. Only to find out the whole thing was fake to get kids from the halls. Thanks, I really appreciated that.
