As a history teacher and as a human being, I owe it to myself and those around me to pay homage to the people that sacrificed so much to ensure that I even had the opportunity to have a quality education. Our children and their families are still fighting that battle half a century later and I'm happy to be a part of that struggle. Regardless of if I, now a private school teacher, and considered a welcome part fo that struggle, I will continue to advocate for positive change as a child of this city that owes so much to those who came before me.
Things aren't the way they should be, but they can be. It takes you and me.
