Sometimes we get too stuck in doing our own thing in our classrooms. Nothing wrong with that. No matter how much you try to align horizontally, there's always going to be that little flare and spin you put on the material to make it your own. That doesn't mean that you can't learn a thing or two from your peers. If you have something to offer, why wouldn't anyone else? This is all better together. Now go. Steal something cool from another teacher.
A Dallas Education Blog by Young Dallas Teachers
Instead of seeking out a master teacher or someone far more senior than myself in the department, I decided to observe a teacher closer to myself in age and experience. It was cool to say the least. The teacher was breaking down different types of historical reading, reading strategies, the difference between reading for english and reading for history. I got several ideas that I've incorporated into the classes following that observation. And you know what? It's helping my kids.
