That's why when a group of my students were so wound up today that I had to redirect them during our discussion, they felt comfortable telling me that they really just couldn't take any more school today. It's Friday, and, according to them, they are ready to be finished.
I didn't yell, scream, or fight them. All I said was, "me too."
I'm ready for them to be at summer too. What to do then? Quit and let them run around? No. We shifted gears and changed the activity to something more active. We played charades with world leaders. We did taboo with content vocabulary. We watched a video about this history of Dallas and talked about it. It was way more fun for all of us and we made it through the class.
All it took was a little honesty.
