The special event was the outpouring of love for outgoing Elizabeth Jones and well wishes for her personal fight against cancer. I was moved by the warm words from trustees, community members, and others for her as she moves from the board to the rest of her life. Both people she agreed with and those who she didn't often see eye to eye with has positive things to say about her and her time serving on the board. I thought everyone was first class and civil which was greatly appreciated.
Trustee Jones herself often was criticized, more later in her term, for being long winded, contrary, and, at times, nonsensical in her commentary during briefings and meetings. Last night she was nothing but poised, poignant, and sincere. It's clear that she truly cares for the students in DISD and I'm sad to see her go. She will be missed by many, but I do believe what she and many others said in their tributes, that she will not be gone forever, just changing her role in the fight for a quality education for our students.
Thank you for your service Trustee Jones. See you soon.
