The sophomores I taught are now all grown up and about to graduate. While the night was supposed to be all about them, and it was, I couldn't help but feel proud to have been a small part of their development from then to now.
The girls were beautiful. The boys were handsome. Everyone behaved as we adults hope that the would: dignified and respectful. I couldn't have imagined a more perfect night for them and seeing that made me truly believe that they will be OK after they graduate. They are about to set off on one of the most exciting, new, terrifying journeys in their lives. We know that, but not all of them do. What they showed me at prom was that they are capable of navigating that. They aren't the same sophomores I know. They've come a long way.
Congratulations to our seniors and good luck. I'm proud of you.
