Students put in a lot of effort into these test and we work hard to get them motivated for these test but now we will not even tell them if they passed. When I took a test in college or high school I anxiously waited to see how I did. If I knew scores came out at midnight, I started loading and refreshing the page at 11:55. I have students already asking for their scores, now they have to wait until someone (me) calls them this summer. Maybe they hope to sneak the scores out when people aren’t paying attention or maybe it really does take a month to process a scantron. Either way, this isn’t in the best interest of students, and it shows these test aren’t for the students. We aren’t getting these scores back to give to students and show them their grade. We are getting the scores back to evaluate schools and teachers, which it seems like is the only thing we use testing for anymore. I can just see our students in college expecting endless chances to pass a test and no understanding that it’s a reflection of their actual grade in the class.
Testing is important, yes, but it needs to be important to students, and needs to be fair to the students. My school expects tests graded the next day, immediate feedback, I don’t see how a month for STAAR is fair.
