Oh boy. Tis the season.
It is always touch and go when you see a kid full on crying in your class. Do you approach and inquire or do you give them space and let them sort it out. I chose both, but I gave space first. It's never easy to watch one of your students that continues to try extrmely hard but still just can't find a way to master whatever content itis they are struggling with.
WIthin 24 hours the student was back to normal, but it's just a reminder of how thin the line between sink or swim is with some of our students. For some, grades are everything. When that gets in the way of enjoyment, learning, and the rest of the student experience, it's hard to watch.
Despite counsleing over opportunities to succeed despite the single grade or attempts to put it in perspective, the pain is still very real for our students.
It's ok, child. Teachers cry too.
