In our classrooms we have discipline levels to work with students. We all have seen the teacher that writes up every student for misbehavior. Those students have little respect for the teacher or motivation in that class. Writing up teachers creates the same atmosphere. Teachers loose respect for the administration. Positive motivation in a school, like in a classroom, incentives teachers to work hard. We all want to be appreciated for our work. Most teachers work hard. Yes there are always exceptions, and those should be handled, but MOST TEACHERS WORK HARD. Teachers work hard because they care about their job and the students. It's not the money that keeps us here, it's the passion for teaching. So if our hard work is ignored, if we are written up for making a mistake, and if we are treated as if we are incompetent, why would we work harder, let alone stay at our job? If we want change, we have to focus on growth and culture. Writing a teacher up creates a division between teachers and administrators. It jeopardizes any culture. When we should be working together as team to support students.
Bottom line, treat teachers like adults not students.
