There is a reason the superintendent is hired and that is to manage and handle the day to day BUSINESS that is the Dallas Independent School District. It would be improper and, quite frankly, a little obnoxious for a trustee to be in the schools throwing their weight around getting teachers fired and making budgetary decisions. If that were our reality, what would the principal do?
Trustees can only see so much from their position, so how do we help them make our lives better? Speaking up. If you only read the DISDBlog, you’d think the trustees were all knowing, non-caring, draconian lords of education, but the truth is much different. You'd think they are untrustworthy and so is everyone else in power. They get the negative all the time, but they rarely get the facts. Email them, call them, chat with them when you see them in public. Let them know what you need and remember that they are human just like you. If we all keep that in mind and speak up together, that is how you get the trustees to make change, not by calling for their heads every other day.
