The purpose of formative assessment isn't to make the kids feel bad. It is to check in and help them work toward mastery. Parents and students don't always see it the same way, but, today, one of my students got it.
"We're almost there," I heard yelled from across my classroom. "At least it's better than last time!"
I couldn't agree more excited student. This is why we do it. This let's us know what we know and what we don't. This let's us identify where we are struggling and move forward. Your grade doesn't determine the amount of my love that you earn. You are my students and I love you all. Now, let's learn some history.
