Last night, I celebrated by eating an entire box of Girl Scout Cookies, which I would have done anyway but now I have a fake excuse.
I talked to a former student of mine and another teacher about the break today and was pleasantly surprised by both. The teacher was furious about having the day off because the activity she was doing with her students was so fun that she was angry at it being interrupted by a long weekend.
The student I asked what they learned the previous week and she told me she learned "way more than [she] thought [she] would." That's a beautiful thing right there. Anytime you shock a student with learning, that's a moment (and content) they'll remember. Sometimes, like in this case, it motivates them to look some things up over the weekend and continue their learning on their own. This student also is learning how to better care for her new baby and is taking the initiative to look up daycare options so she can continue to pursue education.
I'm proud of this student and teacher. They made my Monday. Dallas ISD isn't all bad. There's some inspirational stuff happening.
