Where are our alternative tracks in our high school? Why are some of our lowest performing schools so low on resources that the only options are ROTC and Auto Tech? Where is the variety? Where are the options? Not all of our students are going to college. Period. Should they be college ready? Yes. The problem is that even our students that go to college aren't prepared so they drop out and come back to Dallas and break concrete or work on cars. If that works for them, it works for me, but we need to be helping our students get the skills, ALL of the skills, that can help them be successful and live up to their potential.
Could this send the wrong signal that kids should take the easy way out? Sure, but we need to make sure our students have opportunities and the skills to be successful regardless of the option they choose.
